This course covers fundamental topics related to snow physics and hydrology using modern computer techniques, inlcuding:

  • Snow mass balance

  • Snowpack energy balance

  • Data plotting and visualization

  • Turbulence over snow

  • Mountain meteorology

Prerequisites: Graduate level standing or permission of the instructor

Offered: Spring quarter

In this course, we will explore topics including:

the snowpack energy balance,

blowing snow,

and snow melt,

We’ll discuss issues that arise when measuring snow properties, including when using manual methods,

and automated instruments.
